We are looking at starting a RAM cannula program thru our Pulmonetics vent. Does anyone use this? If so, any success? Any other vents (viable for transport) that this works with?

Yes we use the RAM in our NICU on the PB 840 ventilator for NIPPV and NCPAP.

Only concern I have is the Bias flow in the Pulmonetics ventilator. I believe it is 10lpm. Too high for such therapy.

We did a trial of the RAM vs the F&P HFNC. At the end of the day both products do the same job - deliver a level of CPAP support based on flow regulation. We trailed both products extensively using 3 modes of delivery: wall flow meters, bubble PAP and via the Draeger V500 NICU vents O2 Therapy setting. We were looking to measure 2 main outcomes. 1. Comfort for the bub, as defined by objective data on sleep cycles, questionnaire to parents on their perception of bubs level of comfort and subjective data as defined by physiological variables such as pain/agitation scores, HR, BP. 2. Effect on respiratory function and time to weaning to regular nasal cannula. The latter was defined by O2 requirements, RR, pulse oximetry and overall time on high flow therapy. Outcomes? In terms of comfort, it was readily apparent that the fisher paykel cannulas were a superior product. In terms of resp function there was no difference between the groups. I can't say much more as we are still writing this up for publication, but from my observation I would choose the F&P cannula over the RAM.
